Hello to all PV.M. Garage readers,
my name is Graziano, I’m the author of a newly-born blog about CSS called Blogging CSS, where I review beautiful CSS-based websites, write CSS tutorials and collect web design resources. The blog is written in the Italian language, but I will soon translate it in English, so stay tuned.
In this post I will show you the best blogs that I’ve reviewed so far, but before that let me thank Piervincenzo for giving me the chance to guest post on his great blog. Thanks Piervincenzo!
Alright, let’s start. Below 7 Wonderful Blog Designs.
The Art of Non Conformity
This is the blog of a guy who travels to 25 different countries every year, and the blog graphics perfectly conveyes the idea of travel. The attention to deatil is amazing and the typography is appropriate; the footer on the other hand could have been taken a little more care of.
Cynosura is one of those websites/blogs which prove how much can be done with so little material. Aside from the logo, the post images and a little red there are just (a lot of) white and black, and yet it’s a beautiful blog. Less is more.
Change isn’t exactly a blog but it makes the list as it groups 18 different blogs about 18 different themes. Nonetheless both the graphics and the layout are very consistent through the several blogs. Note the very well designed dropdown megamenu you get clicking on the home page “Causes” button.
Another minimal blog. The big BLOG writing on the background makes a great impact although partially covered. The ruling detail on the post column sides is particularly nice. Squarespace is an important web agency based in New York, which is also responsible for other originally structured and designed websites, such as this one (don’t look at their office photos, you’ll be jealous as hell!), this one and this one.
This is a dark blog. It caught my eye because it’s nicely designed and is particular in two ways: it has a narrow unusual column reserved for blog dates, which are formatted with three circles; and each category is assigned a colored dot, which is reused in the post titles to signal the categories it belongs to. Neat.
Colazione da Michy
Over at Blogging CSS I also review Italian websites. Colazione da Michy is a Tuscan web designer’s blog, Michela Chiucini. The graphics is very nice and inspired by the Italian ’60s, a particularly wealthy period for our country (note the Cinquecento and Vespa images).
Experimental is the best word to describe Stephen Caver’s blog. It breaks so many rules that it got itself the longest review on my blog so far. Unusual palettes, lots of negative space, a grid I’d never seen before and a heavily destructured menu – the Stream page one – which still remains usable (it does for me, anyway).
End of the list. So, did you like the blogs I selected? I hope so. If you have anything to say please do so in the comments. I would really like to hear your feeback. By the way, I blog in Italian but I tweet in English, so if you liked this post you might consider following me on Twitter.
Well, my job here is done. I apologise for any error English-wise and want to thank Piervincenzo once more, I wish we will still collaborate in the future. See ya!
